I was just treated to this short civics lesson and wanted to share it with you.
Pass it along!

+++++++++++++

The Washington Post babbled again recently about Obama inheriting a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough ... A lot of people swallow this nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson.

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets.

And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009.

If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.

In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is, "I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th."

There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on!

More on the Debt:

From one of you (thank you) ~

Michelle Bachman just told the group listening in on the telecom that Nancy Pelosi has called all congressmen back to Washington tomorrow 8/10/10 (their break started last week). She is calling them back to vote in the new stimulus $ so all her Democrat congressional members will have a new shot of $ that can be funneled to their union/seiu/and worker bees to get Democrats reelected. Be sure to contact your congressmen tomorrow and tell them to vote no on the added stimulus $.
If your congress member votes yes....challenge them when they are back in district. This is the Democrats slush fund. Push back America.

National Popular Vote

In the news lately, there has been a smatter about this thing called the National Popular Vote. This is just a way in which liberals want an end run around the constitution. So far, the bill has been passed into law in 6 states, and has passed both houses in 3 others. http://www.nationalpopularvote.com/ is the reference for this.

The constitution of the US requires that states determine how their electors will choose the next president. What this law does is requires the electors (in the states where the bill has passed) to vote in the same way as the national popular vote. This is nothing more than those states (Mass Included) relieving themselves of the responsibility of making that decision at all. This bill is probably the most irresponsible use of state legislative authority that I have ever seen.
Proponents say that it is constitutional; however, I beg to differ. It is a violation of the equal protection clause, and amount to some states attempting to form a coalition among themselves in order to disenfranchise other states. It is the most deliberate act of cessation on behalf of the states that have this law since the civil war. This bill must be stopped. Spread the word.

This is the blog site for the Greater Lowell Tea Party. Like most of the other Tea Parties, we are all very upset with the progress of the government. We have a president and a congress that is going around telling people that they will be given their rights. That is what happens in socialist and communist countries, yet we are letting it happen here. Soon enough, they will be telling us all that they are going to "give" us free speech. When are people going to realize that rights are not given; they can only be taken away? Rights cannot be bought, but when someone tries to sell you your rights, avoid them like the plague. Feel free to comment.
